Sakue in his studio in spring 1992, at an early stage with “Cityscape” (charcoal on canvas). On the plywood board in the foreground is a sketch made on the back of a calendar, which was used for the main drawing. On the left to the rear is a trunk used by Sakue when he traveled to Europe in 1968, a gift from the students of the Hosei University art club. (The completed “Cityscape 1992” can be seen at the end of the Sakue’s A to Z Glossary). Sakue prepares for a solo exhibition in his studio (ca. 1971-1972), before he renovated it, completing works begun in Europe. Various cabinets, also made by him, can be seen in the background to the right, and under the window.
