Garden theme : Under1ying this designis the concept of fusion of two opposing thoughts.`Movement-stil1ness'is pohrayed by the contrast between the`walk-around'garden and the more static`pond-overview'garden.The design is based on the traditional Chisen-tsukiyama style,which imitates a landscape with rocks and sand and symbolises nature worship.This is ba1anced by the introduction of modemity through using plants to represent the colours applied in a water-colour painting.The`east-west'balance is achieved by acompromise between Japanese and English plantings.

Designer: Takayasu Sekinishi
Profile: Takayasu Sekinishi received a PhD in Art Culture from Osaka Art University. He is now the project and design chief at Nakane Garden Research and L.C. Co. He has been involved in the restoration of many historical gardens in Japan. Among his other projects was the design of the Ten-shin-en Japanese garden for an art gallery in Boston, USA.
